Church front and spire under construction. The church was started in 1882 and is still be constructed with a scheduled completion of 2026-7. This is in the Gothic tradition where churches often took hundreds of years to complete.

Gaudi made scale models of the elements in the church upside down to examine the structural forces and those required to resist the forces. Mirrors were then used to reflect the building to the correct orientation to design the structure. Newtons third law states "every action has an equal and opposite reaction".
